KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Credit Corporation (SCC) and the Sabah Young Business and Industry Leaders Network (Sybil) came together in a dialogue session on Wednesday to explore collaboration opportunities to foster the growth of Sabahan entrepreneurs and bolster the State’s economy.
SCC Chief Executive Officer George Taitim Tulas stressed the importance of synergy in building a robust entrepreneurial ecosystem.
“Today’s (Wednesday) event is an important milestone for both SCC and Sybil,” he said at Wisma PPS, Donggongon, here, Wednesday.
“Through this event, we can share our strengths, collaborate, and synergise to uplift our entrepreneurs and, ultimately, the State’s economy.”
George emphasised SCC’s commitment to providing a platform for aspiring entrepreneurs to thrive. He stressed the necessity of breaking down silos and fostering cooperation among various agencies and organisations in Sabah to achieve sustainable economic growth.
“We have several agencies, NGOs, and associations in Sabah.
“The best solution is to meet each other, understand our strengths, and share resources to avoid duplication of efforts and build our economic success together,” he said.
The SCC has already initiated a programme aimed at Sabahan start-ups, with a financing pool of RM8 million. Under the programme, the SCC pledges a maximum of RM50,000 per applicant seeking financial loan aid for start-ups.
Meanwhile, Sybil President James Wong has expressed optimism about the collaboration opportunity’s potential to empower young Sabahan entrepreneurs.
Wong highlighted the importance of supporting local businesses to compete globally and emphasised Sybil’s dedication to nurturing entrepreneurial talent in the region.
“We believe Sabah can compete on any international platform.
“Our goal is to enable young Sabahan entrepreneurs to progress, grow, and build formidable businesses, and we are grateful to SCC for becoming an enabler for them,” he said.
Wong commended SCC for its accessibility and generous support for Sabahan entrepreneurs, citing its low-interest loans and commitment to empowering local businesses.
“We realised now that SCC is a huge enabler to empower Sabahans and young entrepreneurs to build, progress, and grow their businesses.”
With 120 members across Sabah and a growing network, Sybil aims to facilitate the growth of various industries in Sabah.
The partnership with SCC is expected to provide critical finance and funding support to small Sabahan entrepreneurs, unlocking their potential for growth and contributing to the State’s economic resilience.
“This is important mainly because 90 per cent of the Sabah economy comprises small and medium enterprises (SMEs).
“We can help build a formidable economy by empowering SMEs to upscale their businesses to be better and profitable ones,” Wong said.
Sybil Treasurer Kevin Lee led the delegates. Its Vice-President, Datuk Roger Chin, was also present.
Also present were SCC Chairman Datuk Seri Yee Moh Chai, Sabah Economic Advisory Council (SEAC) member Datuk John Lo and Chief Minister’s Financial Advisor Siaw Kok Chee.
