Kota Kinabalu: Young individuals need to be guided to become responsible citizens with strong ethical values and empathy.

“While economic and industrial growth are crucial, equal attention must be given to nurturing the nation’s people, culture and values,” said Tunku Mariamz binti Almarhum Al-Mutawakkil Alallah Sultan Iskandar Al-Haj.

Tunku Mariamz was at the luncheon hosted for her by the Sabah Young Business & Industry Leaders (Sybil) Executive Committee, led by Deputy President Datuk Koh Chung Jade, at Monocolo Hotel, recently.

The event was to introduce Sybil’s members and initiatives while fostering meaningful discussions on leadership and development.

Tunku Mariamz shared her passion for filmmaking, revealing her interest in directing movies that showcase Malaysian culture with a blend of humour, drama, and meaningful narratives.

Sybil President Datuk James Wong expressed heartfelt gratitude for visit, acknowledging its profound impact on his team.

“I am deeply grateful for the visit, which has left a lasting impression on our network. “It has inspired us to remain steadfast in our mission to empower young individuals, who represent the future of our nation,” said Wong.

Wong also extended his appreciation to Koh for facilitating the meeting, recognizing his efforts in making this engagement with HRH a reality.

“She possesses a remarkable sense of humour and a natural talent for storytelling. I was pleasantly surprised by the wonderful exchange we had with HRH,” Wong added.

Earlier, the Royal entourage paid a courtesy call on Chief Minister Datuk Hajiji Hj Noor.

During the meeting, the Chief Minister emphasised the importance of grooming young leaders in Sabah to ensure the state’s future remains in capable hands.

Hajiji commended Sybil’s continuous efforts in nurturing high-quality young leaders through various initiatives, acknowledging their significant role in shaping the next generation of industry and community leaders.

Meanwhile, Sybil is organising a CEO Masterclass 2025 (CEOM2025), a high-impact annual event in collaboration with the Malaysian International Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MICCI) Sabah.

From July 9 to 10 at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC) this year. The theme is “Scaling Beyond Limits,” to guide CEOs and entrepreneurs in Sabah to push their boundaries and elevate their businesses to new heights.

Now in its third edition, CEOM2025 is designed to equip business leaders with the tools and insights necessary for success in today’s rapidly evolving business environment.

The event would feature industry titans and experts who would share valuable knowledge on leadership, strategy, and the latest trends in business management.

This is an opportunity for emerging leaders to gain mentorship and refine their skills for future success,” said Datuk James Wong, President of Sybil.

Sybil earlier also hosted a VIP Networking Evening where more than 50 distinguished guests, including industry leaders, young entrepreneurs, and influential figures interacted.

It provided a crucial platform to encourage young Sabahan entrepreneurs and industry leaders to take an active role in shaping Sabah’s future.

The session offered an opportunity for more new members to learn about the importance of joining the various task-forces where they can contribute to help develop policies that can or will give benefit to Sabah.

Sybil members, executive committee members, and taskforce leaders shared their expertise and insights on key sectors such as healthcare, digitalisation, food security, green energy, and oil & gas.

John Cham, a member and Managing Director of Blue Swan Home Care, shared his personal aspiration to give back to Sabah after spending two decades overseas.

“One of the biggest issues I see in Sabah is the lack of government funding for home care services,.

My dream is to advocate for policies that reduce hospital stays and unlock funding for home care, starting with Sabah, and next potentially throughout Malaysia.

It is a more efficient way to reduce the need for prolonged hospital stay and create ease for people to continue caring for their loved ones from home,” said Cham.

Nazil Lan, organizing committee member and Director of East Nest Borneo, spoke on importance of collaboration, generating fresh ideas, and sharing expertise to further develop Sabah’s industries. He emphasised the importance of long-term prosperity of the state.

Datuk Roger Chin, Vice President and former President of the Sabah Law Society, stressed the strength of the Sybil network as a platform for turning ideas into actionable solutions.

He said the value of Sybil lies in surrounding its members with individuals who are passionate about giving back.

This was echoed by Datuk Koh Chung Jade Vice President and Managing Director of Jetsin Sdn Bhd.

“This platform encourages us to share, ask, and learn from one another. Together, we can achieve growth and accomplishment, rather than working in isolation,” said Koh.

The evening reinforced the idea that while individual success is important, collective efforts lead to greater achievements.
