Kota Kinabalu: A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between SOGSC and SYBIL, symbolising a strategic partnership aimed at advancing Sabah’s position in the O&G industry.
The agreement formalized efforts to strengthen local content, enhance business development, and increase Sabah’s representation in the sector.
The collaboration between SOGSC and SYBIL marks a crucial step toward demystifying the oil and gas industry for non-OGSE companies.
The MoU was signed by Harris and SYBIL President Datuk Ar. James Wong Kein Peng, with SYBIL Oil & Gas Task Force Leader Keith Koh and SOGSC Vice President Francis Jepiuh as witnesses.
Through targeted initiatives such as onboarding workshops, these organizations aim to break down barriers that traditionally hinder non-OGSE players from entering the O&G sector.
By creating pathways for Sabah businesses to explore this lucrative field, they are fostering a more inclusive and dynamic local economy.
SYBIL comprises a diverse group of entrepreneurs leading established companies, while SOGSC serves as a critical platform for engagement, development, and collaboration within Sabah’s O&G sector.
Their joint efforts aim to boost local participation, develop a skilled workforce, and position Sabah as a key player in the global energy market.
The Oil & Gas (O&G) Onboarding Workshop aimed to increase the participation of Sabah’s local companies in the oil and gas industry.
It was jointly organized by the Sabah Oil & Gas Services Council (SOGSC) and the Sabah Young Business and Industry Leaders (SYBIL).
The initiative follows the first onboarding session by SOGSC at the TAS Oil & Gas Institute in KKIP, supported by MIDA, SMJ Energy Sdn Bhd, PETRONAS, and Shell in Oct 2023.
Senior Private Secretary to the Chief Minister, Datuk Caesar Mandela Malakun praised the collaboration between SOGSC and SYBIL, highlighting it as a significant milestone for Sabah’s O&G sector.
“This workshop marks a new era of opportunities for Sabah’s businesses to actively participate in the oil and gas sector.
“The overwhelming response from non-OGSE contractors is a testament to the growing interest and readiness of Sabah’s entrepreneurs to contribute to the state’s economic growth,” he said.
SOGSC President Datuk Harris Annuar Tan said the workshop’s transformative potential.
“This onboarding workshop serves as a catalyst for growth and innovation in the O&G sector.
“By sharing knowledge, fostering strategic partnerships, and providing access to financial resources, SOGSC aims to drive industry development, create job opportunities, and enhance Sabah’s economic prosperity.
“The insights shared by Petronas, SMJ, Shell, KPOC, and financial institutions will empower participants to navigate the industry with greater confidence and capability,” he said.
