Kota Kinabalu: Members of the Sabah Young Business & Industry Leaders (SYBIL) network and corporate leaders from companies of various sectors paid a courtesy visit to the Sabah Institute of Art (SIA) here in Sembulan.
Initiated by SYBIL, this collaborative effort sought to work together with educational institutions and focused on enriching academic and career development programmes for future Sabahan graduates.
The main purpose of the visit was to explore opportunities for joint initiatives and for SYBIL members to:
- Introduce Industry Exposure programmes;
- Offer career guidance and mentorship;
- Develop practical skills specifically tailored for the marketplace;
- Improve employability of graduates;
- Create opportunities for employment and training;
- Carry out leadership development programmes.
The SYBIL network comprises of many entrepreneurs running successful companies on the ground, who are offering college and university students / graduates the opportunity to have hands-on industry exposure through internships or training on their dynamic platforms with real-world projects.
This initiative marks a significant step in helping mobilise more industry players to contribute to the development of future Sabahan talent and nurture the next generation to be well-prepared for the professional world.
SYBIL, led by Precilla Fong, Deputy Secretary and Education Taskforce Leader in SYBIL, expressed that part of their upcoming plans is to offer their support to the education sector by mobilising these private sector industries to give back to the community.
They were keen to explore SIA’s academic and practical learning environment to understand how they can contribute to improve the learning journey of students.
Jay Roy, Chief Executive Officer of SIA, said “The collaboration with SYBIL is a big step-up for SIA and will help bring our students to the next level in order for them to be competent and knowledgeable in all perspectives of life.”
SIA hopes that this initiative shall help to bridge the gap between education and industry practices while inspiring the leaders of tomorrow, who are looking to learn from SYBIL’s corporate business leaders essential skills and trends of the current workplace required by today’s industry.
During this visit, SYBIL launched their latest initiative, the “Industry Exposure Series”, to support university and college graduates in navigating career prospects which SYBIL believed will be of immense value to Sabahan graduates.
This event will provide insights into career pathways, mentorship, and leadership development that is needed to thrive in the competitive job market, thus offering invaluable guidance to future professionals and preparing them for the demands of today’s dynamic workforce.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed also between SIA and SYBIL securing the collaboration and cooperation commitments that both parties agreed to work towards together. SIA and SYBIL agreed to fully utilise their resources and networks to foster a dynamic and impactful collaboration.
SYBIL was honoured to be a part of empowering Sabah’s future leaders to become trailblazers in their respective fields and looked forward to further working alongside various educational institutions and ministries to do so.
